The media-savvy Karrine Steffans aka “Superhead” has been blowing up the airwaves, and heating up internet chat rooms all over the country. Why you might ask? It’s simple: we all love to hear scandalous stories of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll (or in this case hip-hop). Things were not always this way for Ms. Steffans. As a young girl, Steffans grew up in the USVI’s St. Thomas where she excelled in academia and the arts; winning several awards and accolades. At the tender age of 15, Steffans moved from her grandmother’s household on the island, and reunited with her father in Arizona.
By the time she was 17 she moved to LA, married rap legend Kool G Rap, and two years later had his son. She broke free from this allegedly abusive relationship (complete with domestic violence, rape and mental abuse). Subsequently Steffans (under the guidance of Ice-T) had a career-changing run-in with super director F. Gary Gray ( Friday, Set it Off, Be Cool ) on the famed Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. She later starred in his film, A Man Apart opposite Vin Diesel.
She would later be known as an ex-stripper turned actress/video vixen starring in such videos as Ja Rule’s, Between Me & You and Jay z’s, Hey Papi .
With E. Lynn Harris penning her controversial encounters, Steffans recounts her lavish life as a video hoe in her book. Not only did she sleep with some of the most famous and sought-after men in hip hop, she shopped at the best stores, went to the best parties, and spent plenty of celebrity money. Steffans even recounts how after one night with Shaq he deposited a whopping $10,000 a month for four months into her checking account.
She goes on to name countless other stars in music and television. She claims that Vin Diesel had an envious d#$*, how it ‘felt like a privilege’ to hold Fred Durst, Irv Gotti’s insecurities in the bedroom, and P. Diddy’s fifteen minutes of love-making was a total let-down. If you thought that was juicy you ain’t seen nothing yet!
 Steffans has been touring the east coast promoting this book, and in the process has created even more of a media frenzy than the book itself! Last week she was in New York and had two infamous interviews on hot 97.1 with Miss Jones, and power 105.1 with Star and Bucwild. With her ousting of the numerous scandals she was involved in, she must have anticipated that there would be some opposition. Unfortunately for Steffans, New York did not disappoint. In addition to her romps in various bedrooms and limos with the stars, Steffans also claimed to have an illegitimate daughter with Method Man, and a sexual encounter with Big Tigger (that revealed he might have homosexual tendencies). She even claimed that ex-husband Kool G Rap forced her to give him oral sex for over two hours—nearly choking her to death (she doesn’t own the title Superhead for nothing!). All this and more came out when Steffans had her interviews in New York.
To spice things up during the interview, Miss Jones had Kool G and his wife Ma Barker call in and give their story. Kool G totally dismissed all claims by Steffans inferring that she is a money-grubbing media whore. His wife however stayed on the offensive--seemingly more mad at Steffans than her own husband was. Barker produced a taped phone call with Steffans that put a lot of the content in her book under question. A very heated Method Man also called in to clear his name and dismiss all allegations against him. At power 105 things got really heated between Star and Steffans, nearly resulting in an altercation. Star claimed that Steffans was raping the hip hop community for profit and its safe to say that Steffans did not agree with that angle.
From her standpoint, this book had to be written to show young women in the industry that they cannot put all their trust in men, and when she was strung out on drugs and homeless, none of these so called “friends” of hers came to her aid. According to her opposition she is merely a c-list celebrity trying to come up in the business and get some shine no matter who she has to ruin to do so. At the end of the day, in all her encounters, she was a willing participant so she doesn’t have much to whine about. After all, we all have problems—right?
Furthermore, Karrine Steffans is the last person who needs a pity party. This woman is on the move and is currently in talks for a reality show with Edmonds Entertainment. She is the first and only columnist for King Magazine, and she’s even founded a line of lingerie—all in addition to this soon-to-be bestselling book. So for all you Superhead sympathizers out there don’t worry. She’ll be alright... So is Confessions of a Video Vixen much more than a publicity stunt to boost Superhead’s popularity?
